There is no stopping the rampant Mamelodi Sundowns in pursuit to clinch their sixth consecutive DStv Premiership title as Peter Shalulile shines on his comeback.

Sundowns beat Chippa United 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday evening. The win came courtesy of a first half goal by Teboho Mokoena and a second half striker by Peter Shalulile. Chippa scored the consolation goal through Thabiso Lebitso during the referees’ optional time. 

PETER SHALULILE IS BACK WITH A BANG

Shalulile marked his return with a stunning header following a long layoff with an injury. His last match was against the same opponents in September 2022 where he scored the winner for Sundowns.

Peter Shalulile is now the DStv Premiership joint top goalscorer with 7 goals alongside the likes of Bradley Grobler and Caleb Bimenyimana.

UNSTOPPABLE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

It was a fifth straight win since the appointment of Rhulani Mokwena as the solo head coach. They have scored 16 goals in the five matches conceding one goal,

It is also the 10th consecutive win for Mamelodi Sundowns in the league this season. The last time they lost a match was in September 2022 against neighbours SuperSport United.

Head coach Rhulani Mokwena was not entirely impressed with how his team played despite the result. 

“Today wasn’t good. No rhythm in the play, not good at all, but we take the three points and we move on. Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns and long may it continue.” 

Sundowns have now stretched the points margin at the top of the table to 13 points above second placed SuperSport United.

Sundown’s next match will be a Tshwane derby against SuperSport United on Monday, 16 January before facing Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 21 January.

Meanwhile, Chippa United have now dropped to the ninth position on the log with 19 points.

The Chilli Boys will host Cape Town City on Saturday, 14 January before an away encounter against Royal AM on Saturday, 21 January.
