Mamelodi Sundowns have stretched their win in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership to 11 matches.

This comes after a hard fought 1-0 win against rivals SuperSport United in a Tshwane derby at Loftus Versfeld on Monday evening.

United looked like a better team in the first half and missed a few scoring opportunities. But Mamelodi Sundowns’ experience came in handy as they found the back of the net through Neo Maema in the 43rd minute.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS DOMINANCE CONTINUES

The win, their 14th in 17 matches takes Mamelodi Sundowns to 43 points on top of the log. They lead second placed Richards Bay by 14 points.

SuperSport United remain in third position with 27 points, 16 behind Sundowns.

SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt was proud of how his team played on the night regardless of the result.

“I thought we were the better team. Created the most chances but you got to score against a team like this,” Hunt told SuperSport TV.

“We came here a real patched team. A lot of players are out of the starting 11. But I got to commend the players, we kept going. But you have to put the ball in the back of the net.

“They got a lucky goal and I felt for the players because it was a bit unfortunate but all in all I thought we created the better chances,” he said.

United were playing without regular goalkeeper Ricardo Goss and midfielder Grant Margeman. Both players are not eligible to play against their parent club due to the club loan policy.

Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Kaizer Chiefs in their next encounter while SuperSport United will host Richards Bay.
