Limpopo outfit Polokwane City have returned to the summit of the Motsepe Foundation Championship. This follows a 3-1 win against Platinum City Rovers at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
City were held to two draws in their previous matches against rivals Baroka and Uthongathi. Their win, ninth of the season, takes them to the 30 points mark. They are a point above Casric Stars.
Polokwane City coach Duncan Lechesa insists they have to maintain the winning momentum from here.
“We have put ourselves in this position, so we need to maintain it,” Lechesa told journalists after the match. “We need to be physically and mentally strong.”
“I think today we wanted to win the game and we should have grabbed it in the first half. It’s war because if you can see all the teams that are playing with us are fighting,” maintains Lechesa.
LECHESA RUES MISSED CHANCES
“We should have scored at least four or five goals, we will need those goals when the time goes. But congratulations to the boys, they fought hard. We have another tough derby against Baroka FC coming,” added Lechesa.
“We will go out in Lebowakgomo (Baroka Village) to get the three points. If it’s not happening, we will sneak a point. But we want all the maximum points, it is still early we have not finished the first round. We will go out and fight for all the results.”
