Orlando Pirates have agreed with SuperSport United for a loan deal for striker Zakhele Lepasa.

The loan move is for until the end of the 2022/23 PSL season. Lepasa has struggled for game time this season competing with the likes of Kermit Erasmus, Evidence Makgopa and Bienvenu Eva Nga. The arrival of Cameroonian striker Souaibou Marou also meant the 26-year-old could struggle to break into the team.

He has only played five league games this season with just one goal.

“SuperSport United is pleased to announce the signature of Orlando Pirates forward Zakhele Lepasa on loan until the end of the season,” SuperSport announced on Tuesday.

“The 26-year-old played a vital role to help TS Galaxy win the 2018/19 Nedbank Cup before securing a move to Orlando Pirates the following season.

“Lepasa was part of “Buccaneers” squad that won the MTN 8 trophy twice in three seasons (2020/21 and 2022/23) and narrowly lost out on International glory, ending up runners-up in the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup,” read the statement.

“The speedy attacker made his Bafana Bafana debut in the COSAFA Cup in 2019 against Botswana and will look to add to his four Bafana Bafana caps during his Matsatsantsa stay Zakhele Lepasa on joining Matsatsantsa.”

Lepasa has also expressed his delight on the move and vowed to give his all during his six months stay.

“I am very excited to be here and I’m hoping to add value in the team, especially upfront and getting results. I am looking forward to meeting the Matsatsantsa fans this weekend when we play Cape Town City and I promise to give my all during my stay.”

Meanwhile, the club looks set to keep veteran striker Thamsanqa Gabuza. This follows reports that Gabuza could be on his way out to join Stellenbosch.
