Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by a 10-men TS Galaxy side in a DStv Premiership at the Mbombela Stadium on a Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi missed out on an opportunity to leapfrog their arch- rivals Orlando Pirates to a fourth spot on the log standings due to the result.

Chiefs were a better team as they created far better chances than their opponents in the first half of the game. Keagan Dolly nearly broke a deadlock in the 11th minute of the game as he forced Visijile Kolak into a fine save inside the box. Defender Sfiso Hlanti also failed to hit the target as he misdirected his header from Dolly’s free kick.

Youngster Mduduzi Shabalala also tried his luck in the 35th minute with a long range shot which went wide.

Meanwhile TS Galaxy forward Djakaridja Traore saw his efforts saved by Brendon Petersen from Orebotse Mongae’s cross. The Rockets suffered a huge blow after Marks Munyai got his second yellow card for a poor challenge in a space of 10 minutes. He received his marching orders in the 57th minute of the game.

The Glamour boys were pushing for a late win after Siyethemba Sithebe and Yusuf Maart tried their luck from range and neither couldn’t trouble Kolak.

“I think the first ten minutes we started very slow, we gradually picked up. We dominated the middle and we forced them to make mistakes,” said Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane.

KAIZER CHIEFS BLOWS HOT AND COLD

After playing five matches so far, Amakhosi have accumulated four points from a possible 15. They have scored two goals and conceded six. Chiefs also lost three matches in a row against Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu. They won against Royal AM and drew 0-0 away to Galaxy.

Chiefs next encounter is a Nedbank cup last 32 match away to Maritzburg United. That fixture is scheduled for Friday, 10 February at Harry Gwala Stadium at 19:30.
