Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma admits it’s time for the club to break their long trophy drought.
The Chiefs have gone eight seasons in the PSL era without a single trophy in their cabinet. Something unusual for one of the power houses of South African Football.
They will get a chance to hunt for a trophy in the Nedbank Cup. Amakhosi were drawn against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars in the last 16 stages.
Casric are a relatively new side in SA football having bought their status from Free State Stars seven months ago.
BRUCE BVUMA AWARE OF WHAT’S AT STAKE
Bavuma insists the current crop of players is aware of the magnitude of the team’s history and always wants to emulate the yesteryear players.
“We are very much aware of the pressure and how big the brand is. Kaizer Chiefs is one of the biggest teams in this country. We grew up watching Kaizer Chiefs and we know what Kaizer Chiefs has done throughout the years,” said Bvuma.
KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYERS EAGER TO EMULATE HISTORY
The 27-year-old was talking at the draw of the Nedbank Cup last 16 round.
“We also want to be part of the history that wins trophies that motivates youngsters outhere to want to come to Chiefs because it’s a big team and a big brand so as I have mentioned we are known for winning trophies and it’s been eight years since we have won a trophy and we want to break that draught and win more silverware for the team.
“We knew as players when we signed up at Chiefs that there would always be pressure. So we are used to pressure and I believe we perform better when we are under pressure so there is nothing new about it and we just want to go out and give our best.”
