SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has conceded that his side is no longer in the title race for the DStv Premiership title against Mamelodi Sundowns this season. This is despite Friday’s 2-0 home win over Maritzburg United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Kegan Johannes opened the scoring in the second half, before Bradley Grobler scored his 100th PSL goal on the day. The weekend results keep the gap at 19 points between Matsatsantsa and the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with nine games to go.

When asked about the possibility of catching Sundowns, Hunt has refused to accept that his side can still challenge Sundowns, insisting that the season is over.

Speaking after the important home win over Maritzburg, Hunt said, “it’s over” for his side as he thinks Sundowns have long won the title.

“No, it’s over, it’s long gone. I mean, they are a too good squad, let’s give credit to them. They are a great team,” Hunt told LimSportsZone after the match.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS HAVE RAISED THE BAR

“Right now, I think it’s going to take years. They are a tremendous team. So, let’s give credit to them. I wish them the best of luck in the Champions League,” he said.
