DStv Premiership strugglers Marumo Gallants moved to the top of the CAF Confederation Cup following a 2-0 win against Algerian side USM Alger at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday. 

Lesiba Nku and Lesie Koapeng scored in each half to take Marumo Gallants to the summit of the group with nine points. Alger are second with seven points while Saint Eloi Lupopo and Al Akhdar are third and fourth respectively.

MARUMO GALLANTS ARE TWO MATCHES AWAY FROM CONFEDERATION CUP HISTORY 

There are two matches to go but Marumo looks likely to go through to the knockout stages.

Marumo Gallants coach Raymond Mdaka says they are not getting carried away 

“We are very impressed with how the match went, congratulations to our boys, they did a very good job,” said Mdaka.

“All we needed was three points because this is the team that is at the top. They beat us away, yes, but we beat them here 2-0. So we are at the top, and chances are getting much better to get to the next stage.”

On the plans for the remaining two group matches, Mdaka insists their approach will not change. 

“The very same way we take one game at a time. We are playing away and we will not take advantage of the fact that we beat them here, therefore three points are guaranteed.”

FOCUS SHIT TO DSTV PREMIERSHIP RELEGATION BATTLE 

Mdaka has urged his players to transfer their continental form into the domestic DStv Premiership league.

“I think mentally our boys are ready, they understand what is happening. You see sometimes when you are tired it’s only the kind that can carry you. So the mentally, attitude and character  we will do the same in the league games.”

Marumo are away to Cape Town City in the league on Tuesday, 14 March before they resume their CAF commitments
