Mpheni Home Defenders owner and coach Sydwell Phuravhathu wants his players to use the Nedbank Cup last 16 match against Chippa United to fight for their families and careers.
Home Defenders and Dondol Stars are the only SAFA ABC Motsepe League teams remaining in the competition. Dondol have already caused an upset and knocked out AmaZulu to advance to the quarterfinals. The Limpopo club will be seeking to do the same.

But they face a Chilii Boys side that recently made changes to their technical team.
“You don’t need to motivate them more. They know what is at stake, they know that by beating Chippa they will go to the quarterfinals,” said Phuravhathu ahead of the match.
“They also know that their careers are on the line, scouts will be there so they know that they are putting themselves in a good position for their careers and families.
Mpheni Home Defenders Nedbank Cup motivation
“The only tough thing was motivating them while playing against another ABC Motsepe League team but for a PSL team, it’s a motivation on its own,” he added.
“History has already been made, the fact that we qualified for the last 32 and progressed to the last 16 is a history on its own. Anything else is just a cherry on top.
“We want to proceed further and reach the final of the competition. We are not here to add numbers to the competition, we are here to compete with the rest. So we are ready to go as further as possible, to reach where we can.”
Mpheni will be hoping to join the likes of Sekhukhune United and Domdol who have already progressed to the last eight.
