The 36-year-old was released by the citizens after head coach Eric Tinkler indicated he was no longer part of his plans. Makola has struggled with game time at the club in recent times.

This is despite signing a new one-year deal at the beginning of the season. He featured nine times in the DStv Premiership for City this season.

Makola made his debut for Polokwane City during the 1-0 defeat by Caric Stars at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.

“His experience will help us,” said coach Duncan Lechesa.

“He came to make us play and only came this week but he will get there. The fitness level is not that great. He will give us another 70 minutes over the weekend and let’s see how it goes,” he said.

Wednesday’s results mean Rise and Shine are now second on the log behind Cape Town Spurs.

Both teams are left with seven matches to play with Spurs leading with just a point. Casric are also now on 46 points equal on points with Polokwane City.
