Stellenbosch FC returned to winning ways after thumping Swallows FC 3-0 in a DStv Premiership match at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday evening to add more woes for the troubled club.

It was Swallows who started off to a great start as early as in the fifth minute. Waseem Isaacs’ long range was tipped off by Sage Stephens at the top left corner.

The hosts held a few of their own which saw Junior Mendieta fail to keep his shot down from outside the box. Stellies got a golden opportunity through a striker Rayners. But he spurned a great chance midway through the first half. He fluffed his shot after the ball fell on his feet inside the box.

However, the striker made amends after he met Mendieta’s cross into the box. He put the hosts ahead in the 29th minute slotting home past Akpeyi.

MORE WOES FOR STRUGGLING SWALLOWS

Swallows FC nearly hits back 11 minutes later as Waseem Isaacs who got on the end of Kwanda Mngonyama’s cross failed to hit the target. He saw his header being saved by Stephens. The first half was closing in as both teams went to a break with the hosts taking a slender lead thanks to an on-form striker Iqraam Rayners.

STELLENBOSCH CONTINUES TO PRESS

The home side continued where they left off in the second half. They almost hit back through Fawaaz Basadien who was denied by Daniel Akpeyi inside the box in the 48 minutes. Stellies doubled their lead through Iqraam Rayners in the 59th minute. He slotted past Akpeyi from the bottom left corner from range just before the hour mark.

The hosts continued to ask more questions. This time it was Devon Titus who got into action six minutes later with a strike from inside the box. But this time Akpeyi dealt with the ball very well. Rayners failed to get his hat trick as he got his chance fluffed off.

The visitors on the other side were trying to get into the game as Waseem Isaacs was unable to beat Stephens. This was from a header from Nicholus Lukhubeni’s cross.

STELLIES CLAIMS SIX SPOT ON THE LOG

The hosts sealed the game with only 10 minutes remaining. This is after a great work by Rayners who turned into a provider and set up Jabaar who made no mistake and scored a third goal of the night. They move up to sixth in the DStv Premiership log.
