Cape Town Spurs showed their dominance in the Motsepe Foundation Championship yet again on Sunday afternoon as they secured an important 2-1 victory over NB La Masia, sending them back to the top of the table.

The afternoon was marked by a top performance from striker Ashley Cupido, who scored his 14th goal of the season. The victory left Shaun Bartlett’s men a point clear of Casric Stars with a game before the curtain closes.

Casric Stars dropped to the second spot after a 1-1 draw against Venda Football Academy. VFA are set to appear before the Premier Soccer League DC on Tuesday for charges of fielding an improperly registered player (Athini Jodwana).

Third-placed Polokwane City have also remained in the hunt for an automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 win away from home to Platinum City Rovers. University of Pretoria showed no sympathy to the relegated Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila as they edged them 2-0 at Tuks Stadium.

Meanwhile, high-flying All Stars rubbed off on the wounds of basement club Black Leopards after a 3-1 at Thohoyandou stadium. Hungry Lions’ hopes for playing in the promotion playoffs came to an end after they lost 1-0 to Baroka.

On the other hand, Pretoria Callies narrowly beat JDR Stars 1-0 in the Tshwane derby at Tshwane University of Technology stadium. Meanwhile, Magesi and Uthongathi shared the spoils after a goalless draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo.
