Limpopo side Polokwane City has gained automatically promotion back to the South African top-tier league, DStv Premiership, after three seasons away.

City became the champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship 2022 /23 season after beating Pretoria Callies 4-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

City were in position three when the fixtures started on Sunday, however, they managed to overtake Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars who both played to 1-1 and 2-2 draws on the final day, respectively. Spurs and Casric will play this year’s promotional playoffs with one of the DStv Premiership teams.

Rise and Shine were relegated from the big time three years ago but will be playing the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs once again next season after a brilliant 2022/2023 campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Limpopo side will pocket R5-Million as the champions of this season’s Motsepe Foundation Championship. On the other hand, two Limpopo’s teams in Black Leopards and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila have been relegated to the ABC Motsepe league.
