The draw for the HollywoodBets COSAFA Cup 2023 was conducted on Friday afternoon during the Annual General Meeting [AGM] in Johannesburg. CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe attended the meeting where he addressed the COSAFA members.

This year’s HollywoodBets COSAFA Cup is scheduled for 05-16 July in Durban. There will be 12 teams with three group stages. CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe was happy about the work which is done in the region to strengthen football and he also asked the governments to have a relationship with the region to strengthen the region’s football.

“I will never accept, and I am from the nation that is represented here, that the ambition is not [to win the Africa Cup of Nations],” he said.

“Every leader in every COSAFA nation should have that clear objective goal. I know the enormous talent [in the region],” said the CAF president during the Annual General Meeting.

“The best way to market football in COSAFA is for the teams to be successful. A big football country is one that wins African competitions. We must tell the political leadership in the country that they should support football, and they should be proud also. There are times when we must talk nicely and make plans, but there are also times when we need to implement and get results.”

Group A will be made up of the hosts, South Africa together with the 2022 runner-up which is Namibia and others. Group B will have the defending champions, Zambia together with Malawi and others

The last group which is Group C will have Mozambique together with Angola and other nations. The HollywoodBets is still the sponsor of this competition. HollywoodBets will also sponsor the upcoming 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship and 2023 COSAFA Women’s Champions League.

The winners in the group stages will advance to the Semi-Finals, while the best number two in the group stages will also advance to the group stages.
