Mamelodi Sundowns are highly likely to release South American Gaston Sirino before the transfer window closes.

The Uruguayan playmaker joined Sundowns in January 2018 after signing a two-year contract with Masandawana at the time. In 2020 Sirino was awarded a five-year contract at Sundowns which is expected to expire in 2025.

However, according to the club head coach Rulani Mokwena, things have changed for the player.

Mokwena has revealed that Sirino wants to leave Sundowns even though he is still contracted to the club and they are waiting for the offer. Sirino has made 178 appearances for the Brazilians since he joined them.

“That’s what he told the club (that he wants to go). He said I must wait for an offer and there’s an offer that’s coming. This was three weeks ago and we are waiting, because he’s asked us to wait for an offer,” Mokwena stated on Power FM with Skepe Matsebane.

Sirino hasn’t been featured in all the games Sundowns have played this season. The former Club Bolivar has been linked with Al Ahly before but the offer was rejected. Masandawana’s mentor has insisted that they don’t want to keep players who don’t want to be part of their team.

“We don’t keep players at Mamelodi Sundowns that don’t want to be here. We understand how privileged we are to represent this football club, myself included. Every single person is at Mamelodi Sundowns because they are prepared to be selfless,” he said.

The 32-year-old has won sixth league title with Mamelodi Sundowns with a record of seven games to spare.
