The start of the DStv Diski Challenge this past weekend saw a lot of Derby matches while Cape Town Spurs won their first-ever match.

Stellenbosch v Chippa United and Moroka Swallows against TS Galaxy FC were the only two matches that were not Derby matches. Only three games took place on Saturday with two games at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

DDC SEASON START WITH A DRAW

The first game of the day was in Idas Valley Sports Ground between Stellenbosch FC and Chippa United FC where we saw Stellies winning by two goals to nil. The Tshwane Derby ended by 1-1 with both sides failing to secure the maximum points. Mabena who is also playing in the first team for Bafana Ba Style scored the only goal for the team and Mazibuko equalised in the 88th minute for Matsatsansta.

The last game was between TS Galaxy FC against Moroka Swallows FC and the game ended 1-1. On Sunday there were five games, all derbies. Two first-team players of Kaizer Chiefs, Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala were playing for Amakhosi against Orlando Pirates. The game ended 1-1.

In Cape Town, Cape Town Spurs made their debut in the DStv Diski Challenge playing against their neighbours, Cape Town City and the Urban Warriors won 2-0. At Princess Magogo Stadium,  former Kaizer Chiefs FC midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane started his DStv Diski Challenge as a head coach with a draw against Lamontville Golden Arrows. Majola scored the only goal for Usuthu while Malinga equalised for Abafana Besthende.

Sekhukhune United won 2-0 against Polokwane City while Royal AM defeated Richards Ba 2-1.
