Polokwane City and AmaZulu FC played out to a goalless draw in the DStv Premiership match at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Monday afternoon.

It was the visitors who looked more lively and created better chances in the first 15 minutes of the game.

However, both teams were struggling to create clear chances as both keepers were hardly troubled.

There was a controversial incident in the 35th minute of the first half as AmaZulu thought they had a penalty but it wasn’t to be.

It was that moment when the visitors were attacking however Sapunga took a short goal kick to Bulelani Nikani who was still inside the box however the defender was believed to have handled the ball with his hands. This was a clear deliberate handling of the ball in the box and should have given Usuthu a penalty. However, the officials didn’t make sense of what had just happened. Both sides went to Half-time still 0-0 apiece.


With the 2nd half resuming, both teams made a few changes with Polokwane City introducing Goovadia and new signing Ndumiso Mabena while Usuthu brought in Letsoalo for Dion.

It was the visitors who looked more lively and missed a couple of chances in the early second stanza with Kwem and Moremi being the culprits.

The visitors were pushing for an opener as Hanamub blasted wide from a tight angle before Dion’s efforts were saved by Sapunga. Usuthu were not done as Mphahlele’s header was dealt with in the 87th minute of the game.

The home side tried to throw a sink in the dying minute of the game however AmaZulu stood firm and the match ended in a stalemate.

The results mean that Usuthu is sitting in the 6th position on the log standings. Polokwane City sits in the 12th position.
