Orlando Pirates have announced the signing of midfielder Deivi Miguel Vieira, known as Gilberto from Angolan Girabola side Petro de Luanda ahead of the new PSL season.

Reports emerged earlier this week that the Sea Robbers have agreed to pay R11 million to de Luanda to secure Gilberto’s signature.

Gilberto joins the Buccaneers after a stellar season. He won the Girabola League title and the Angolan Super Cup in the 2023/24 campaign with de Luanda.

The Angolan winger was also part of the Angola squad that reached the quarter-finals in the CAF 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast earlier this year.

The 23-year-old star scored five goals and provided two assists for Petro de Luanda in the league in the just-ended season.

He will travel to Spain with Pirates for a three-match tour next month. They will face English Championship side Plymouth Argyle, Qatar Stars League club Al Sadd SC and La Liga outfit Sevilla.

On Friday morning, the Soweto giants confirmed the acquisition of the speedy winger. He joins the team on a three-year deal.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Delvi Miguel Vieira. The 23-year-old joins the Club on a three-year deal after passing a medical and finalising personal terms,” Pirates stated.

“Delvi, who is better known as Gilberto, joins the Buccaneers after two seasons with Angolan Girabola champions Petro du Luanda.

“The enterprising forward comes off an impressive season where he starred at the African Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast earlier in the year, helping guide Angola to the quarterfinals of the competition.

“Gilberto is due to fly back to Angola today to finalise the necessary paperwork. So that he can join the squad for its outbound Preseason Tour to Spain from July 8.”
