Former Orlando Pirates winger Bernard Morrison scored as his side, Yanga SC beat Marumo Gallants 2-0 in the CAF Confederations Cup semifinal first leg at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The two teams dominated each other in the early stages of the game. Both sides have wasted a few chances that were not much of a threat throughout the first 45 minutes.

Gallants got back on top in the second half and took control for a few minutes, but still, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

It was Yanga who scored after they won the ball high up the pitch, and it worked its way to Stephane Ki who rifled a shot into the net to Washington Arubi’s right just after the hour mark.

The Tanzanian side gained confidence after scoring. They went on to create more problems for the Gallants’ defense but they were unlucky to double the lead.

BERNARD MORRISON GIVES YANGA SC ADVANTAGE

Just when the middle man was about to blow up his whistle, Morrison, who played for the Buccaneers between 2016 and 2018, powered home a low near shot in the additional minutes to earn his side an important 2-0 win at home.

This means Gallants will have to do it harder to go through to the finals of the CAF Confederation tournament. They host Young Africans at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday, 17 in the second leg.
