Castillo joined Amakhosi on a two-year deal with an option to extend for a year, from his native country’s side, Monagas SC, where he registered three goals in 16 matches across all competitions.

And according to Carelse, the most exciting blockbuster move has undoubtedly been the one for the Venezuelan midfielder as he has already shown his capabilities.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder believes the 29-year-old player will be a superstar as well as a stalwart in the middle of the park for the Soweto giants this season.

Carelse is confident Chiefs’ midfield is in good hands, with Castillo involved in it.

“The South American player (Edson Castillo) has impressed me at Chiefs. He looks like a solid player and a good one for the team,” Carelse told LimSportsZone

“He is a good controller of the ball in the middle, though I don’t know how much will he be good going forward. But he is an aggressive player.

“Obviously, I have not seen him that much, but he will be a good midfielder for Chiefs. I think he can make a good combination with other midfielders.

“I suppose he will eventually find his partners in crime. Let’s see when Keagan (Dolly) is back, what they can do together, along with other one or two midfielders.”

Castillo turned out to be an important asset for the 2023 MTN8 semifinalists, as he cemented his place into coach Ntseki’s starting eleven.

In all three appearances he made this season for Amakhosi, the Venezuelan international has scored one goal so far.
