Orlando Pirates have confirmed the signing of Cameroonian international striker Souaibou Marou from Coton Sport.

The 22-year-old forward has signed a deal with the Soweto giants until 2024/25 season. 

The talented player scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and is the reigning Cameroonian Footballer of the season award winner.

Souaibou Marou also comes to South Africa on the back of a three-year stint with Coton Sport. He won two league titles in the process.

The club announced the player’s arrival on their website on Thursday afternoon.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Souaibou Marou from Coton Sport.

The 22-year-old has secured a deal that will see him at the Club until 2025.

Marou comes to South Africa on the back of a three-year stint with his former club, Coton Sport, winning two league titles in the process, including Player of the Season award in 2022.

His form in the Cameroonian league didn’t go unnoticed as he was selected to the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad that competed in Qatar.

The Cameroonian international, who concluded his deal with the club yesterday afternoon, will join his new teammates this morning.

The player has come through the youth ranks of the Cameroonian football system and has been described as one of the top young talents to have emerged from that country in recent years. 

Marou formed part of Cameroon 2022 FIFA World Cup squad in Qatar although he didn’t feature in a single match for the Indomitable Lions.     

The striker joined new additions Craig Martin and Ndumiso Mabena to coach Jose Riveiro squad. 

BACK TO LEAGUE ACTION

The Buccaneers will host Stellenbosch on Sunday in the DStv Premiership game at Orlando Stadium. They are currently sixth in the DStv Premiership log with 22 points from 16 games. 21 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
