Malesela, who has won one major trophy in his coaching career has stated the negotiations between him and the club chairman Khurishi Mphahlele didn’t take long to reach an agreement.

“We didn’t talk for too long, I think it was one or two and we agreed. I was fortunate sometimes when I was with the other team, I was driving with my technical team and (I said) I’m interested in seeing the village and fortunately the chairman was here and I was highly [impressed] with what I saw,” Malesela stated.

According to the Baroka chairman, the former Chippa United coach could remain with the club next season if they get promoted to top flight football next season. Mphahlele has alluded their aim is to get back to the DStv Premiership next season.

“You all know his name and he is going to be with us until the end of the season. Hopefully when we get to the DStv Premiership he will be with us.

“Our aim is to get to the DStv Premiership next season. That is why we have a man like Dan here to sign with us.”

Baroka are yet to register their first win of the season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after playing five matches. The Limpopo based team are welcoming Upington City on Wednesday afternoon.

PSL strugglers Marumo Gallants have confirmed the appointment of Dylan Kerr to take over from Dan Malesela. Malesela was placed on a compulsory leave following a string of poor results in the DStv Premiership. Gallants languish at the bottom of the log after 20 matches.

In a statement on Monday, the club confirmed that Kerr has returned to an advisory position.

“Marumo Gallants F.C. has appointed an interim technical team for the club. Seasoned football coach Dylan Kerr will fill in an advisory position as a consultant, with assistant head coach Raymond Mdaka filling in as interim head coach.

Kerr, Mdaka and Sly Mosala (co-coach of the club’s DDC team) will form Gallant’s interim technical management team, with immediate effect.

“The above changes come as current head coach Dan Malesela and Technical Director Harris Choeu embark on a period of special leave. This break will give Malesela and Choeu the opportunity to recoup energies and observe the team from a distance in order to objectively assess the causes of recent results and develop strategies to improve team performance going forward. Malesela remains Head Coach of Gallants.”

“I believe that Malesela and his team have done their best. However, the results show that it’s time to reflect and come up with different tactics,” said club chairman Abram Sello.

“Losing games takes its toll mentally, physically and emotionally. Therefore, this opportunity will allow for the technical team to re-energize and come back with improved strategies.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have the luxury of pausing football games during this period, and therefore we have an interim technical team taking the reins for now. I trust my players and I know that they will continue to strive for wins and make myself and our supporters proud,” he said.

The club also revealed that the new club is finalising the signings of new players.

“Our aim is to continually beef up and build a team with great talent who will help  take Gallants to new heights,” said Sello.
