Glasgow City have announced the signing of Banyana Banyana international Linda Motlhalo. The 24-year-old joins from Swedish side Djurgårdens IF on a long term deal until 2025 

The Banyana player started her international journey at NWSL side Houston Dash in 2018. Following a successful season in the USA Motlhalo went on to join Beijing Ptransferring China. This was before her transfer to Djurgårdens IF in 2020.

MOTLHALO EXCITED TO BEGIN HER NEW FOOTBALL JOURNEY 

“I am excited to have signed with Glasgow City,” she told the club’s media department. 

‘I am looking forward to new experiences and new adventures here and I look to develop further and I can’t wait to get this chapter started.”

Interim Head Coach Leanne Ross also commented on her first signing since ascending to the new role. 

“I am excited to announce the signing of Linda Motlhalo here at Glasgow City,” she said. 

“Linda arrives with a wealth of experience on her CV from her time in some of the top leagues in the world and her impressive international career with South Africa.

“I have no doubt a player of Linda’s experience and technical ability will enhance our already talented squad, she is an exciting attacking talent who I am very much looking forward to working with.”

KEY TO BANYANA BANYANA SQUAD 

She made her Banyana Banyana at the age of 17 and scored on that day. Motlhalo is one of the most important players in Desiree Ellis’ international side. She has an impressive 62 caps and 16 goals for her country.

Motlhalo was part of the history-making squad that was crowned Africa Cup of Nations Champions in Morocco in 2022. 

With Banyana Banyana having qualified for the upcoming World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, she is expected to play a big role in the team. 

Motlhalo is already eligible to be in the squad to face Rangers in Sunday’s SWPL meeting at Broadwood Stadium.
