Football agent Rob Moore has shared his view on why Njabulo Blom hasn’t been called-up to the Bafana Bafana team recently. This is despite having a good season at St Louis City SC.

Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes that the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder has a bad attitude hence he couldn’t be part of the team for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, Moore is convinced that Broos is not getting the right information regarding Blom injury.

“It’s either Hugo Broos is not getting the right information regarding Njabulo Blom. The club did medical testing and the medical opinion was that Njabulo must not worry because he would be okay by the time he was meant to go to Bafana camp,” said Moore at Metro FM with Andile Ncube.

“It’s hard for Blom to defend himself on the statements made by coach Broos. If he cannot even have a meeting with the coach so he can explain his side of the story. Maybe Blom is not one of the coaches favourite players”

WHY IS HUGO BROOS SNUBBING NJABULO BLOM FROM THE BAFANA BAFANA SQUAD?

This all happened within a period of Monday to Wednesday. The club said that Blom doesn’t need a certificate because the nature of the injury was that he would be okay to play for Bafana. It’s not difficult to see the match in question. Njabulo injured his shoulder during that match and was taken off”

“The first time, SAFA chose to not believe the player. His club when Blom had covid and this was confirmed by his club. Certainly, Njabulo Blom is not a liar. If Blom is not his player or not the coaches cup of tea then perhaps coach Broos must say that”

With a month to go before the Afcon begin at Ivory Coast it’s unclear whether Blom will be part of the team.

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has commented on some of the players he selected for the national team but couldn’t make it to his camp due to injuries and other reasons.

Bross has indicated that they had a similar situation with players being unavailable despite being selected to represent the country.

The Belgian-born believes there’s a need for better communication between PSL clubs and the national team.

“Unfortunately, this camp is disturbed again by injuries like last month. We have [Bathusi] Aubaas, [Thapelo] Morena, [Thapelo] Maseko… Maseko is something different, it’s the second time we have that surprise that he’s injured and suddenly he plays,” Broos said at the HPC today.

“It was last month with Mudau, this month, Maseko. I think we need better communication between the national team and clubs so we really know how much the players are injured and if he’s not ready to come with the national team.

HUGO BROOS CONCERNED AS PLAYERS WITHDRAW FROM BAFANA CAMP

Percy Tau is another who has withdrawn from the camp due to family reasons. Al Ahly star has been replaced by Mduduzi Mdantsane. However,  Broos claims he is not satisfied with Tau’s decision because played for his team recently after asking to be withdrawn from the national team.

“Then there’s the case of Percy Tau, we had contact last week, [and] for family reasons he [excused himself], and I understood it but on the other side, I’m really not amused that he played yesterday with Al Ahly.

“So, I think clubs need to understand that in very important periods they want their players. But it’s the same case for me, for us as a national team. We’re in a very important period, we’re preparing for qualifiers next month and AFCON in January.

“So, I hope a little bit more collaboration from [clubs] would be welcome. It means our goal is not achieved, that we have nearly the same squad that won against Morocco and build on that selection to have a very good team going into qualifiers and AFCON.”

Mmonnapule Saleng is the latest player to be withdrawn from the squad due to illness. The Bucs player has been replaced by Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo.

South Africa will host Eswatini on Friday evening at FNB Stadium. They will visit Ivory Coast next week at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his final 23-member squad for the international friendly matches. They will play against Eswatini and Côte d’Ivoire this month.

Broos’ charges host Eswatini on 13 October 2023 at 18:00. They will then travel to West Africa to face next year’s CAF Africa Cup of Nations hosts Côte d’Ivoire on 17 October 2023.

Broos says he continues to finetune his squad, the two matches this month will help him get even closer to the kind of team he has in mind for next year’s AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.

“We have again three injured players for the moment, players who played in the previous games. It’s a pity, but I think for 80-85% that the team is made (for AFCON),” Broos said on Thursday after announcing the squad.

“There can be changes, certainly there can be changes, but I’m very happy that we are already so far. With those two games now, Eswatini and Côte d’Ivoire, I can really make the choices next month for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.”

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos reckons that the remaining fixture of the CAF 2023 AFCON qualifiers’ match could be a friendly game now that they have already booked their place following the win against Liberia on Tuesday evening.

South Africa narrowly avoided another draw with Liberia. Thanks to Mihlali Mayambela’s goal that secured victory in the 52nd minute after these sides went to half time break with a 1-1 draw courtesy of goals from Zakhele Lepasa and Liberia’s captain William Jebor.

Coach Hugo Broos explained how happy he was that his charges didn’t settle for a draw. This is because people anticipated that it might end in one and that could keep their hopes up of qualifying, instead they qualified on the spot.

“I am very happy that we have qualified because some guys were talking about a draw,” Broos proceeded to laugh while he told SAFA Media officer, Romy Titus, in a media interview.

Broos continued to explain how challenging it would have been for them if they played a draw.

“But if it was a draw [and] we are playing in June, and they [Liberia] are only playing in September. You know with this program everything can happen.

“I don’t say that it will be voluntary. But it could be that in June – Morocco is coming to South Africa with a good team. In September they have already prepared for AFCON, and they have a team with less quality. So, I hoped it was not a draw, certainly not,’ he added.

BAFANA BAFANA RELEVEAD AHEAD OF AFCON

According to Broos, the senior national team is now relieved of the difficult task at hand. They can use this encounter as part of their preparations for the AFCON tournament next year.

“And now for us, it’s a good friendly game even [though] it’s a qualifier. But it’ll be a very good friendly game in June and results are not important. Again we will try to prepare the team very well and be ready in January for the AFCON in Ivory Coast,” he concluded.
