The Chilli Boys have now announced Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo will take over as the co-coaches. Both have had stints at SuperSport United with September recently in charge of the Matsatsantsa DStv Diski Challenge side.

“In a strategic move to bolster our club’s vision and future, our current head coach, who has admirably led the team for 16 games and secured 18 points, will be transitioning into the role of Technical Director for the remainder of the season. This change allows us to leverage his extensive experience and knowledge in a role that is crucial for the club’s long-term strategy and success,” the club said.

“The Club welcomes Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo, both highly respected figures in the football community, as our new co-coaches. Thabo September, a former professional player, brings a wealth of on-field experience and understanding of the game. Kwanele Kopo, born and bred in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, and renowned as a teacher of the game, offers an unparalleled depth of tactical expertise.

“Together, they will lead our team with a focus on nurturing local talent. Ensuring the team remains in the Premier Soccer League. Chippa United has always been more than just a football club. Since our arrival from Phillipi, Cape Town to Gqeberha, Eastern Cape in 2014. We have not only been a part of this province but have become integral to its sporting culture.”

“Our 14-year journey in the football space has been marked by a steadfast commitment to not only compete in the PSL. But to enrich the Eastern Cape by showcasing local talent. We take pride in players like Zuko Mdunyelwa from Jamestown in the Joe Gqabi municipality, who have showcased their talent and are now signed to the football giants Mamelodi Sundowns F.C.”

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has also elaborated on the team’s unusual approach to filling a player’s position by advertising the vacancy on social media instead of following the traditional scouting method.

There were mixed reactions last week when the Chilli Boys advertised a left-back position on their respective platforms.

However, Mammila maintains that it proved to be the most effective method, and ultimately, they successfully found their desired player.

“Let’s be honest, a scout can’t be all over Africa, nor the world but a tweet can be all over Africa. So, that one tweet has managed to attract over 500 quality left-backs,” he said.

“Unlike if it was one scout, who would be able to go to Tanzania, Zambia and others. But with this one tweet we’ve managed to be all over Africa as I’ve said,” he concluded.

Mammila has also provided an insight into the team’s preseason progress during the DStv Premiership launch in Randburg, Gauteng on Wednesday.

The Chill Boys recently traveled to KwaZulu-Natal to prepare for the upcoming 2023/2024 DStv Premiership season. According to Mammila, the preparations went smoothly, and there has been a noticeable improvement.

“I think so far, the Preseason went well, we look better than the previous season- it is always good when you compare yourself with the previous season,” said Mammila

“So far so good, the new players, experienced players are going to help us as the teams,”

The 50-year-old coach further expressed his satisfaction with his current squad. The Eastern Cape side recently made significant signings, including Craig Martin, Augustine Mulenga, Menzi Ndwandwe, and Luvuyo Memela. Additionally, Orlando Pirates has officially confirmed that Goodman Mosele will be on loan at Chippa for the upcoming season.

“To be honest I’m happy with the team that I have now, I was only looking at one position which is the left-back that we even advertised, and the response was something out of this world, but we managed to get a quality left-back,” he said.

Morgan Mammila has chosen a Premier Soccer League experienced coach as an assistant to him as Chippa United coach.

The veteran football administrator, who turned to be a coach last year, will be the man to succeed Lehlohonolo Seema in the Chilli Boys hot seat. The club announced on Tuesday.

Mammila is primed to take charge and change the fortunes of the club in the 2023/2024 season. It would be his second stint at the Eastern Cape-based club.

In their statement when announcing Mammila, Chippa have confirmed that a long-serving member of the team, Siyabulela Gwambi will be the assistant coach.

However, LimSportsZone can confirm that Mammila wants Kopo to be part of the new technical setup as there will be a major rebuild required at the club next season.

“Coach Morgan wants Kwanele Kopo to be his assistant. They want to have a strong technical team next season,” the LimSportsZone source revealed.

This publication has also gathered that the former SuperSport United coach has been talking to Chippa, of late, about taking the assistant job.

“Kopo has been talking to Chippa, lately and everything will be finalized no later than the end of June. It’s highly possible that he joins Chippa, ” said our source.

“Now the issue is that Kopo’s contract with Pretoria Callies comes to an end by month end. So they are still sorting out that issue.”

Former Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has joined Swallows FC as their technical advisor following the departure of head coach Ernst Middendorp.

The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor, Middendorp has since ditched the Dube Birds to take a job at relegation-threatened German third division team, SV Meppen. Swallows had put Musa Nyatama as the caretaker coach until the end of the season.

Mammila had emotionally announced his retirement from coaching after he was sacked by Chippa United towards the end of February after a poor run of results.

Mammila, a football administrator standout who turned to be a coach, has represented the bitter Chilli Boys during his short stint as he made his presence felt, winning four league matches in a row that saw him become the first coach at the club to do so.

Mamila’s football advisor job gives him input around technical aspects of the game—his role is likely to be to provide advice on all football and performance matters, as well as developing stronger links between Nyatama and his troops.

In a short statement, Maswai-Swai stated: “Swallows FC would like to welcome Morgan Mammila as a Technical Advisor to the Dube Birds.”

After the Germany-man departure, Swallows played only one game under the guidance of Nyatama – where they lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows before the international break.

Swallows sit 14th in the DStv Premiership table with 24 points. A point behind former Mamila’s Chippa United as they have accumulated 25 with seven games to go.

Dstv Premiership side Chippa United have fired their coach Morgan Mammila following a 2-1 defeat by Swallows on Sunday.

The defeat leaves Chippa in the bottom four of the league log. They are six points above bottom placed Marumo Gallants with 10 matches to go.

Mammila has been in charge of the club since taking over from Daine Klate. He has a great start to his tenure and won four matches in a row.

But a sudden slump of form has forced club owner Chippa Mpengesi to pull the trigger.

Kurt Lentjies on the other hand is set to be confirmed as the interim head coach. Lentjies recently return to the first team squad after being frozen out a while ago.
