ABC Motsepe’s Dondol Stars midfielder Tebogo Makungo has found himself a Premier Soccer League (PSL) home, while teammate goalkeeper Siphamandla Gumede is expected to follow ahead of the 2023/2024 season.

Interests in Makungo, Gumede and a few of Dondol players were first reported back in April, with their coaches having insisted that they will not stand in the players’ way if professional teams want their signatures.

Makungo and Gumede were amongst Dondol Stars players who starred in the recent Nedbank Cup tournament. Stars went as far as the quarterfinals of the competition.

Makungo, 31, had scored against Orlando Pirates in a 1-1 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, where Stars eventually lost 5-4 in a penalty-shootout. Gumede, on the other hand, had conceded three goals throughout the tournament.

Following an impressive performance in the Nedbank Cup and a great season in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League, LimSportsZone can confirm that Makungo has joined Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Pretoria Callies.

Meanwhile, Gumede remains a key goalkeeper target for Richards Bay heading into the winter transfer and is currently more likely to join them in the coming days.

“Tebogo Makungo to Pretoria Callies consider it a done deal, he will be joining them next season,” a close source to the player told LimSportsZone.

“So, Spha (Gumede) remains a key goalkeeper target for Richards Bay, they are in talks, and he will probably sign in the next few days, should they agree on terms.”

The 2023 Nedbank Cup quarter-finalists secured their first-ever Gauteng ABC Motsepe League title last season and qualified for the national playoffs.

Stars, however, were unable to make it to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. They lost their first match to Umsinga United before beating FC Buffalo in their last match.
