Orlando Pirates defender Tapelo Xoki leads the suspension list as there are ten DStv Premiership players who are set to miss the final day of the season show-offs.

Avoiding major injuries is always pivotal to the success or failure of sides in the DStv Premiership, particularly with the season coming to an end.

Unfortunately, for Pirates it was not the case as they saw their defender, Xoki. He picked up a fourth consecutive yellow card in a league game against Sekhukhune United over the weekend. He will also miss their clash against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The Buccaneers are also not the only team to have suffered with having players unavailable for the final match of the season.

As the relegation fears deepen, it will be seen as a major blow for one of the threatened clubs, Marumo Gallants. They will have to do it without their scoring machine, Ranga Chivaviro.

The Orlando Pirates’ Medical Team has provided an injury update on Thembinkosi Lorch and Tapelo Xoki along with several other squad members.

Both Lorch and Xoki sat out the Buccaneers’ 2-1 league win at home to Cape Town City over the weekend. Xoki has not recovered in time for the clash after picking up a knock deep inside extra time during the marathon cup encounter against Dondol Stars in Polokwane.

Lorch on the other hand was not considered for selection. This follows a minor knock picked up in the build-up to the fixture at Orlando Stadium.

According to the medical team, Xoki is likely to be fit for selection ahead of Sunday’s league game away to TS Galaxy. He returned to full training after suffering a head injury.

Lorch remains a doubtful starter for the clash in Mbombela and continues to be monitored. He picked up a knock to his hip.

Four more First Team players have recently been discharged from the injury list. They are back training fully with their teammates.

Right-backs Bandile Shandu and Craig Martin are back to provide more depth in defence after recovering from illness and a slight knock, respectively. Both have recently resumed full training along with goalkeeper Richard Ofori and striker Bienvenu Eva Nga.

Meanwhile, Vincent Pule and striker Ndumiso Mabena are expected to be back at full training during the course of the week. Both players were sidelined by knee injuries.

Also on the mend is midfielder Goodman Mosele, who has started light training. But remains under rehab, while defender Olisa Ndah is still sidelined with a knee injury.

Pirates are currently third in the DStv Premiership standings. They could jump up to second should they defeat Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday. Kick-off is at 15:00.
